Repeat Prescriptions

Ordering repeat prescriptions

You can order repeat prescriptions online:

  • Using your NHS account (through the NHS website or in the NHS app)
  • Using the GP online system - SystmOnline

These accounts show you all your repeat medicine and dosage and you can choose the ones you need.

You can also:

  • bring the paper form to the surgery, Monday to Friday, from 8.00am to 6.30pm
  • use NHS 111 to order a prescription or get medicine information

Collecting your prescription

Repeat prescriptions will be issued at the doctor's discretion and are normally for patients on long-term treatment. Please allow two complete working day (48 working hours) before collection and please make allowances for weekends and public holidays. Alternatively, your prescription can be posted to you if you provide a stamped addressed envelope. Some chemists offer a prescription ordering and collection service - please enquire with your local chemist.

Nominating a pharmacy

We now offer an Electronic Prescription Service (EPS). Doctors can prescribe your medication and immediately send it to a pharmacy of your choice. This means that you do not have to come to surgery to pick up your paper prescription. Some medication can not be prescribed this way and so please speak with a receptionist for more details.

Medication reviews

If you have a repeat prescription, we may ask you to come in for a regular review. Please book a routine appointment for your review.

Questions about your prescription

If you have questions about your medicine, your local pharmacists can answer these. They can also answer questions on medicines you can buy without a prescription.

About pharmacists

As qualified healthcare professionals, they can offer advice on minor illnesses such as:

  • Coughs
  • Colds
  • Sore throats
  • Tummy trouble
  • Aches and pains

They can also advise on medicine that you can buy without a prescription.

> Find a pharmacy

Many pharmacies are open until late and at weekends. You do not need an appointment.

Most pharmacies have a private consultation room where you can discuss issues with pharmacy staff without being overheard.

What to do with old medicines

Take it to the pharmacy you got it from. Do not put it in your household bin or flush it down the toilet.
