HMRC Scam Calls Posted on 17 Jun 2020

iCAN Warning: HMRC scam calls

Trading Standards have been made aware of an automated phone call scam which tells residents HMRC is filing a lawsuit against them for non-payment of tax, and to press one to speak to a caseworker to make a payment. The call goes on to state you will arrested if you fail to pay.

We can confirm this is a scam and you should end the call immediately.

This scam has been widely reported and often targets elderly and vulnerable people.

There is also a scam where somebody claiming to be from HMRC calls a resident and leaves a threatening pre-recorded message if they cannot get through.

Please do not respond to these calls and if you do get one contact Trading Standards and/or HMRC directly.
