Warrington Borough Council, alongside Public Health and LiveWire, is encouraging residents to take advantage of free Blood Pressure Drop-In sessions running across the borough this April.
High blood pressure (hypertension) is often described as a “silent condition” because it typically has no noticeable symptoms. Many people may be living with it without realising, which increases the risk of serious health problems such as heart attack, stroke and kidney disease. Locally, it is estimated that around one in three adults in Warrington may have undiagnosed high blood pressure.
These drop-in sessions are designed to make it as easy as possible for residents to get checked. The test is quick, free, and does not require an appointment. Neil’s Lifestyle Teams will be supporting delivery of the sessions across a range of accessible community locations.
If high blood pressure is identified, support and advice will be available. This may include simple lifestyle changes such as improving diet, reducing salt intake, increasing physical activity, or where appropriate, starting medication.
Who should attend?
While everyone is welcome, these sessions are particularly important for adults aged 40 and over, or anyone who has not had their blood pressure checked recently.
Session locations and times include:
- Community centres across Warrington
- Libraries and family hubs
- Local leisure centres and community venues
- The Living Well Hub and mobile Living Well Bus
(Please see full schedule for dates and times at the end of the article.)
If you are unable to attend one of the sessions, blood pressure checks are also available at most local pharmacies or through your GP practice as part of an NHS Health Check for those aged 40–74.
You may also wish to consider purchasing a home blood pressure monitor, with many reliable options available from around £20. Monitoring your blood pressure at home can help you stay informed and take control of your health.
Councillor Maureen McLaughlin, Cabinet Member for Health, Wellbeing and Social Care, said:
“High blood pressure can often go unnoticed, but it can have serious consequences if left untreated. I would encourage residents, particularly those aged over 40, to attend one of the many blood pressure drop-in sessions taking place this month.”
