Diabetes Eye Day
Posted or Updated on 27 Jan 2026
People living with diabetes in Warrington are being encouraged to take an important step in protecting their sight by attending a Diabetic Eye Screening Meet and Chat event at Golden Square Shopping Centre on Friday 30 January.
The event, running from 10am to 3pm near NEXT, is being delivered by the Central Mersey Diabetic Eye Screening Programme in partnership with Diabetes UK and venue sponsor Golden Square.
Diabetic eye disease is one of the leading causes of sight loss in working-age adults, but early detection through regular screening can prevent most serious vision problems. The event is designed to make accessing screening easier and to give people a chance to speak directly with the team who run the NHS service.
Visitors will be able to:
-
Learn more about how diabetes affects eye health
-
Book or check their eye screening appointments
-
Receive help using the online patient portal
-
Ask questions in a relaxed, supportive setting
No appointment is needed – people can simply drop in while visiting the shopping centre.
A spokesperson for the Central Mersey Diabetic Eye Screening Programme said:
“We know that life can be busy, and some people find it difficult to book or attend appointments. By bringing our team into the heart of the community, we hope to make it easier for people to look after their eye health and get the support they need.”
The event is open to anyone registered with the NHS Diabetic Eye Screening Programme across the Central Mersey area.
